This course has been designed for pre-dental students to gain insight and a hands-on approach to learning about what the clinical portion of dental school entails. More importantly it is an opportunity to begin to develop the hand skills that ...are necessary to succeed. It is an opportunity to find out "if dentistry is for you."

This course will reveal the art and science behind dentistry. Students that complete this course will have a better idea of what it takes to be a dental student, gain confidence, and become a more competitive applicant.

Students attending the predental clinical simulation course will have the opportunity to learn the following in a state of the art pre-clinical simulation lab:

• Use various dental instruments.
• Use waxing instruments to wax teeth to proper form and function.
• Use a high speed handpiece to prepare class cavity preparations.
• Restore cavity preparations with amalgam.
• Restore cavity preparations with composite.
• Take impressions of typodonts and pour them in stone.
• Develop hand skills and a working knowledge of clinical dentistry.
• Take part in a presentation given by the OU COD admissions office.
• Have access to current dental students attending OU COD for a Q&A session.
• Take a practical and written examination for certification of attendance.

The course will be held on Saturday, November 20th. The cost to take this course is $85. However, if you are an OU ASDA member, you receive $5 off. Announcement from Kay Robinson, Director of Campus Activities and Events at UCO:

It's that time of the year again- time for the President's Club Children's Christmas Party! For those of you who are new to UCO and don't know about the party, it is held Friday, December 4th from 12-2pm in the NUC Ballrooms. We bring 250 underprivileged Edmond area first-graders to campus and basically give them a holiday celebration! They get to meet Santa, do some holiday crafts and best of all, they get a backpack full of gifts just for them.

This is where you come in- the toys in the backpacks are provided by sponsors and we need sponsors! It is very easy to sponsor a child, and a lot of student organizations have it built right into their budgets. The cost is $20-30 per child, and we ask for there to be two sponsors per child. You will find out your child's name and their needs, go shop for them, and then show up on December 4th to escort them through the party. Our sponsors have just as much fun as the kids at the party, so you don't want to miss it!

The form is attached and is due Monday, November 2nd to the CAE offices on the 4th floor of the UC. If you have any questions, please contact the Campus Activities and Events office at 974-3656.

The form can be accessed here:

General Meeting & Manual Dexterity Workshop

The UCO Predental Society is proud to host the first annual manual dexterity workshop on Tuesday, April 14th. Through a special collaboration between the Art Department and the Biology Department, we are offering students the opportunity to develop their manual dexterity and visual-spatial abilities and learn micro manipulations in a forum other than a science lab.

Scheduled for the evening are several stations including:
- jewelry making
- pottery
- drawing

Each station will take approximately 45 minutes for proper instruction and actual hands on experience.

The meeting will start at 5:30 in HOH 205. Food and drinks will be provided in addition to elections for new officers. We will then migrate over to the art department at 6pm for the workshop.

**If you would like to attend, e-mail us at uco.pds@gmail.com or call 405-219-1598 by Friday, April 10th.**

Also, our general meeting is this Friday, April 10th in room 202 in Howell Hall. We will meet from 12pm-1pm. Our guest speaker is a naval recruiter. Following her presentation, we will have an advisement workshop.

4-5-09 update

We are extending the due date for the Executive Board application. It is now due by 3pm on Tuesday, April 7th. We actually have two additional positions available. We are adding a Historian position, and we are splitting the current Vice-President position into two separate Vice-President positions – an internal and external for more effective leadership. You can give your application to an officer or e-mail it to us at uco.pds@gmail.com. The application can be found here.

Remember, our next general meeting will be held this Friday, April 10th at 12pm. We will meet in room 202 in Howell Hall.

Also, if you attended yesterday's Pre-Dental Simulation Course, please let us know so that you will be given points for attending.

Have a great week!

3-31-09 update

Hello everyone,

We have a few announcements!

Big Event will be taking place on Saturday, April 18th. If you want to participate, you will need to go to the Volunteer and Service Learning Center office to register. Malori is our team leader, but there will also be an additional team leader at this site. Since the maximum number of volunteers for this site is 20, you will need to register as soon as possible. Our site is the Council of Neighborhoods, and we will be flowering and doing yard work. We will meet at UCO at 8am and then go to our site at 9am. It is expected to take up to 4 hours, but we suggest that you keep your schedule free through 2pm. If this site becomes full, you can still participate with another team for points! If you have any questions about Big Event, contact Malori.

If you are interested in an Executive Board position for the 2009-2010 year, you will need to fill out an application. The application is due by Monday, April 6th. You can give your application to an officer or e-mail it to us at uco.pds@gmail.com. The application can be found here.

Also, our next general meeting will be held on Friday, April 10th at 12pm. We will meet in room 202 in Howell Hall.

Here are some additional announcements:

Hello. My name is Kaela Davis and I currently serve as UCOSA Vice President. Pi Sigma Alpha and UCOSA are working together to coordinate an Easter Egg Hunt for children whose parents are deployed in the military and we need your help. We would like to have a variety of carnival style booths for the kids and parents to walk around and visit while they are waiting for their turn to participate in the Easter egg hunt. We are asking that you help us by sponsoring one of these booths.

The Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 11, 2009 from 1-3. Each booth needs only 2 or 3 people working it and volunteers are more than welcome to come in shifts. Please please please help us make this a special day for the these children.

Below, I have listed the booths that we have thought of, but if you have an alternative idea for what your organization would like to do that is great!

Non Permanent Tattoo Station
4-5 Person Easter Egg Race
Easter Bunny bean bag toss
Pin the Tail on the Easter Bunny
Decorate Easter Egg Cookies
Guess the number of Tootsie Rolls in the Jar
Dig the Easter toy out of the sand
Color the Easter Egg Pages table
Face Painting Table
Put the Ring on the 2-Liter

If you would like to sign up to host one of these booths or have any questions please feel free to contact me by phone at 405-974-2937 or by email at KDavis40@uco.edu. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kaela Davis
